  • Configuring “connected accounts” in new Outlook.com

In the old Outlook.com you would configure your business email address like myname @ mydomain.com to forward emails to your Outlook.com account and as a “send only” account so you could send emails from that address. After the forced migration to the new Outlook.com this feature has been removed. The only way to send emails…

  • Microsoft breaks Outlook.com for users with two email addresses

Microsoft’s forced migration of users from the old Outlook.com infrastructure based on Hotmail to the new one based on Exchange hit me today. I can no longer send emails from my business address and Outlook 2016 desktop is broken. This is partly because because the new system is unreliable and partly because Microsoft is going…

  • Microsoft Project 2016 and SharePoint Project Web App

I have always found it very difficult to understand Microsoft Project provisioning options. This video makes it very clear. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OC6wiMEFCEU&list=PLoJ4O8aYHqgAtiXSbleKz0oPZD6bwhrah&index=6 At my current client we have Office 365. I have purchased a single copy of Microsoft Project Professional and because of this our Office 365 tenant gets a Project Online licence which allows us to use the…

  • Windows 10 Parental Controls don’t work

I have been testing Windows 10 parental controls and they simply don’t work. Many others have this experience. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_10-security/windows-10-family-safety-screen-time-limits-not/57689ce1-6638-4d44-8f2f-9af82138375c They simply do not reliably impose screen time limits and in some cases do not even successfully filter porn. A limitation (not a bug) is that filtering only works with IE and Edge so you must…

  • (Fixed) Remote desktops are tiny on hdpi screens

The Microsoft Surface 4 Pro has a very high dpi screen (hdpi) this results in remote computers having tiny unreadable screens when you connect with Microsoft’s built in RDP client. You can zoom but this breaks the windowing. After some testing I found an autoscaling client that works well. http://www.mremoteng.org/download

  • Cannot install Edge extensions if Parental Controls are active

I wanted to install Ad Block Plus to Edge on my son’s laptop. The installation always failed when trying to acquire a licence. I suspect that this was due to parental controls being active. If you have solved this problem or have other comments on Edge and parental controls please comment below.

Most cars on the my local motorway are Fords, imagine if Ford bought the motorway… This is a very important article on how video is changing the topology, function and power balance of the internet: TLDR: Google, Facebook, Netflix will own it. http://qz.com/742474/how-streaming-video-changed-the-shape-of-the-internet/

As a management consultant frameworks are key tool for me; a well designed framework is quickly understood by the client and team and can aid understanding and adoption. I am presently working in the education sector and have encountered SAMR to describe how technology can be used. Although drafted for education the principles are applicable…
