I have been working in the enterprise Java space for many years and this domain is now rapidly becoming “legacy” (ie. the stuff that just works and makes the business all its money). The exciting sexy stuff is all MOBILE!
So where should I be putting my developement effort? Android, Apple, Blackberry or Windows?
We all know that IOS applications make more money than Android but how much more?
The answer to the question (1.94 times) and many more you have not even thought of is contained in the Developer Economics 2011 report. This is fascinating, free and available here.
If you need to improve the efficiency of your software development team, I can provide FogBugz and Kiln training and project management services while you plot your way to mobile millions.
Converting a shop from Java development to Android development would be much easier than cross-train to objectiveC. Plus I believe the future adoption of Android will blow iOS out of the water. Yes they will always remain a high margin technology but the Android numbers will be significant (emerging markets, hello!).
Have you considered mobile web applications? There are frameworks that do a lot of heavy lifting to adapt to all platforms:

Then there are products that will convert your web application code to native app but I am always a bit suspicious about such conversions:

Have fun 🙂
Thank you for your comment. I agree but for the facts and figures read the paper. It is free and very, very good. I have considered mobile web and the front end for my applications is written in SmartClient which is a competitor to Sencha. I will certainly look at Phonegap, thanks for the tip.
