As a CTO and system admin I know that the three most important tasks are,

1. Make sure that backups are running
2. Make sure that restores are working
3. Don’t forget 1.

Therefore I was more than a little surprised to find that when I restored my Android phone the text messages were missing. It seems that although the Android system does automatically backup a lot of app data including appointments and contacts to your Google Account it does not backup SMS messages.

I have installed SMS Backup and Restore on my new phone. It backs up sms and call logs to your OneDrive, Google Drive or Dropbox account.
